All hardware, mechanics, opticsoptics, and software of the Series3 encoder family have been redesigned specifically to achieve these levels of functional safety. The hardware, optics and software were designed to handle position data redundantly. This allows a double stream of position data to be available immediately after the encoder is switched on, so that the machine can operate safely from start-up.

Fagor Automation’s G3-FS, S3-FS and SV3-FS encoders comply with the functional safety standards for machinery EN ISO 13849-1:2015 and EN 61800-5-2:2016. In addition, they comply with the relevant electronic equipment standards for functional safety IEC 61508:2010 and the more recent IEC 61800-5-3:2021 standards, specific for encoders. Fagor Automation has been audited and certified by TÜV SÜD during the entire development process.
