{"id":854159,"date":"2016-04-18T08:49:31","date_gmt":"2016-04-18T07:49:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www-dev.fagorautomation.com\/robotek-team-7th-at-the-european-first-tech-challenge\/"},"modified":"2023-08-12T07:10:55","modified_gmt":"2023-08-12T06:10:55","slug":"robotek-team-7th-at-the-european-first-tech-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www-dev.fagorautomation.com\/en\/robotek-team-7th-at-the-european-first-tech-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"ROBOTEK team 7th at the European First Tech Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As in previous years, the <strong>European First Tech Challenge was held in Eindhoven<\/strong> (The Netherlands) on the 1, 2 and 3 April. 44 robots entered the mechanical and robotic design competition from around Europe, divided into two groups of 22, and the <strong>ROBOTEK team came 7th in its group.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_76616\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-76616\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-76616 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www-dev.fagorautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/robotek4-300x169.jpeg\" alt=\"Robotek\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-76616\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image shows official presentation on 14 March at Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The team is comprised of <strong>7 students from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mondragon.edu\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mondragon University<\/a> <\/strong>and this great project is sponsored by <a href=\"https:\/\/www-dev.fagorautomation.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fagor Automation<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mondragon-assembly.com\/en\/mondragon-assembly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mondrag\u00f3n Assembly<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danobatgroup.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danobat Group<\/a>, amongst others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They presented a 4-wheel drive prototype made of aluminium and plastic profiles, and <strong>all of its accessories were machined by the students themselves using <a href=\"https:\/\/www-dev.fagorautomation.com\/en\/product\/cnc-systems\/applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fagor Automation<\/a><\/strong> <strong>CNCs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"> The robot is comprised of 3 main mechanical systems: the chassis where the drive system is located for movement along the track, the ball collection and launching system with ground buckets, and the hook system for lifting the robot above the ground, and other minor subsystems to meet competition requirements. Added to which is the electronics aspect of the motors (electric and servo), controllers, battery, WIFI control via Android mobiles\u2026 and the Robot programming in Java.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_76617\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-76617\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-76617 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www-dev.fagorautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bestand_001-1024x768-300x225-1.jpeg\" alt=\"ROBOTEK team\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-76617\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ROBOTEK team working together to set-up their robot at the First Tech Challenge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The championship constitutes a new means of learning scientific-technological concepts where factors such as creativity, originality and teamwork are valued, whilst promoting personal initiative and comradeship. &#8220;They all volunteer, its an extracurricular activity but a lot of what they do is covered in the classroom, and therefore it is a complimentary activity&#8221; says Mikel Garc\u00eda, engineering professor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This edition had two objectives: firstly a 30 second period where the robot had to autonomously press a button to sound a siren, and place some plastic parts into a basket. During the subsequent minute and a half, a joystick was used to guide the robots to pick up and place as many balls and buckets as possible into a basket, and to hang from a bar.
