Collaboration among companies, even among rivals, is a common thread.\u201d This year, Fortune Magazine published their \u201cChange the World\u201d list, which is comprised of successful international businesses and initiatives that are taking on society\u2019s unsolved problems. Mondragon Corporation, parent company to Fagor Automation, was considered by Fortune to be the 11th company of 53 that are spearheading that change.<\/p>\n

\"\"For Fortune Magazine<\/a>, widely known for their Fortune 500<\/a> list, this was the sixth year creating a list of companies that are changing the world. To generate this list, they look at four key factors: Measurable Social Impact, Business Results, Degree of Innovation, and Cooperate Integration. Looking at the excerpt for Mondragon, it makes a lot of sense why they earned their ranking.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cFounded by a Basque Catholic priest in 1956, Mondragon is a conglomerate of 260 companies spanning construction, finance, manufacturing, and agricultural and food production. (One of its companies worked on the roof of the Guggenheim Bilbao, shown here.) With 12.2 billion euros ($14.5 billion) in revenue last year and more than 81,000 employees, it\u2019s one of Spain\u2019s largest employers\u2014and as the world\u2019s largest federation of worker-owned cooperatives, it has grown in part because it doesn\u2019t disproportionately enrich top brass.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cNo top executive makes more than six times the salary of the lowest-paid worker in his or her cooperative (and all earn far less than $1 million annually). \u201cThey know they have to be profitable or they won\u2019t exist. This is not a hippie group of co-ops,\u201d says Georgia Kelly, founder of the nonprofit Praxis Peace Institute, who leads seminars at Mondragon. \u201cBut their ethic is people before profit.\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"Mondragon Corporation\u2019s mission is encapsulated in its Corporate Values: inter cooperation, grassroots management, corporate social responsibility, innovation, democratic organization, education and social transformation, among others.<\/p>\n

Fagor Automation benefits greatly in its relationship with Mondragon through its powerful research and development capabilities. Mondragon Corporation currently has 15 technological centers, and 10% of Mondragon\u2019s profit gets invested into R&D each year. Mondragon Corporation also manages the Mondragon University<\/a>, which also helps Fagor Automation in it\u2019s research for additive manufacturing technology.<\/p>\n

The Fagor Group<\/a> makes up 10,000 out of the 80,000 Mondragon employees, all of which belonging to eight Fagor companies. Fagor Group consists of Fagor Automation<\/a>, Fagor Arasate<\/a>, Fagor Electronica<\/a>, Fagor Industrial<\/a>, Fagor Ederlan<\/a>, Copreci<\/a>, Mondragon Assembly<\/a>, and Galbaian<\/a>. Together, they produce world leading industrial technology, such as: Metal press machines for the automotive manufacturing industry, semi conductors, food service\/commercial laundry products, automotive vehicle components, and cutting edge machine tool solutions.<\/p>\n
